Terms of Use
These Terms govern your use of the CarDiag AI app and its online services (AI analysis, AI chat, voice input, VIN lookup, CarDiag Pro and AI credits), provided by RACEMEASURE LLC ("we", "us"). Your license to use the app itself is granted under Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the Standard EULA); these Terms add the rules for our services. Please also read our Privacy Policy. By using the app, you agree to these Terms.
1. What the app does and doesn't do
CarDiag AI reads diagnostic data through an ELM327-compatible OBD adapter: fault codes, the VIN, module identification, freeze frames and live values. On your command, it can clear fault codes. It is not a dealer or manufacturer diagnostic system. Which modules and data are available depends on the car, its gateway, the adapter and the protocols, and we don't promise that every module, code or function of your car can be reached. You need an iPhone with iOS 17 or later and a compatible Wi-Fi or Bluetooth LE adapter, which is not included.
2. Use it safely
- Don't use the app while driving. Park in a safe place before you connect, scan or read results.
- Make sure the adapter and its cable don't get in the way of the pedals or your driving. Some adapters drain the battery, so unplug the adapter if the car will stand for a long time.
- If a warning light points to a serious fault (brakes, airbags, steering, oil pressure, overheating), stop and get professional help.
3. AI answers are for information only
The analysis and the chat answers of the AI mechanic are generated automatically by AI models. They can be incomplete or wrong. They are for information only, are not professional repair or safety advice, and don't replace an inspection by a qualified mechanic. Meanings of manufacturer-specific codes may be AI assumptions; the app marks them. An assessment such as "Safe to drive" is an estimate: if in doubt, don't drive and contact a workshop. You decide what to do with the answers.
4. Clearing fault codes: risks
Clearing codes is part of CarDiag Pro. A clear starts as soon as you tap a clear button in the report or ask the AI mechanic to clear codes; there is no second confirmation screen. You can stop it with Cancel or Stop before the commands are sent. Before you clear, please note:
- Clearing doesn't repair anything. If the fault is still there, the code and the warning light come back.
- Don't clear codes before the fault has been inspected. The stored codes and freeze-frame data are what a workshop needs to find the cause.
- Clearing resets the readiness monitors of the emission system. Until the car has completed its drive cycles, it may fail an emissions inspection.
- Permanent codes can't be erased with a scan tool. The control unit removes them itself after the repair, once its self-test passes.
- Clearing codes of safety systems (airbags, ABS, stability control) doesn't fix them. Have such faults checked by a professional.
- Clear codes only with the car standing still and the ignition on, never while driving.
- The app saves the codes found before the clear, reads them again afterwards and shows what was really cleared. Some modules refuse to clear.
- Never clear codes to hide faults from a buyer, an inspector or a workshop.
You use the clear function at your own responsibility.
5. CarDiag Pro and the subscription
Pro unlocks clearing codes, live gauges and PDF reports. The available options and current prices are shown in the app before purchase:
- Pro Monthly: an auto-renewable subscription. Any included AI credits are shown in the purchase screen.
- Pro Lifetime: a one-time purchase.
Subscription terms: payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase. The subscription renews automatically for another month unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the end of the current period; the renewal is charged within 24 hours before the period ends. You can manage or cancel the subscription in your Apple Account settings (Settings → your name → Subscriptions). After you cancel, Pro stays active until the end of the paid period, and credits already added remain yours. Price changes follow Apple's rules and notifications. To get Pro on another device with the same Apple Account, use "Restore purchases" in the app.
6. AI credits
- Credits for AI analysis and chat can be purchased separately in the app. Available packs and current prices are shown before purchase.
- Credit usage is recorded when a request has completed successfully and is visible in the app.
- A request that fails is not charged.
- Credits never expire. They have no cash value, can't be exchanged for money, transferred or resold, and can be used only for the AI features of CarDiag AI.
- Your balance is linked to the random account ID in your iCloud Keychain (see the Privacy Policy). If it is lost, for example on a new iPhone with iCloud Keychain turned off, tap Restore purchases first; if the balance still does not appear, contact us with the date and amount of your purchase from Apple's receipt email and we will help restore it.
7. Refunds
All purchases are processed by Apple, and refunds are handled only by Apple under its policies. You can request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. We can't issue refunds ourselves. If Apple refunds a purchase, we may remove the corresponding credits or Pro access. Statutory rights, such as withdrawal rights in some countries, are exercised through Apple.
8. Availability and changes
AI features need an internet connection and depend on third-party providers, so they may sometimes be unavailable. We may change or replace AI models and features and change the prices of future purchases. If we permanently discontinue the AI features, we will announce it in the app in advance.
9. Acceptable use
Don't misuse the services: no automated or bulk requests, no attempts to get around payments or limits, no interference with or reverse engineering of our server, and no unlawful use, including tampering with emission controls, odometers or immobilizers. We may suspend access to the AI features in case of abuse.
10. Third parties and trademarks
The AI features use services of Anthropic and OpenAI; VIN lookups use NHTSA vPIC. Offline vehicle data comes from NHTSA vPIC, Wikibooks (CC BY-SA 4.0) and the Swiss Federal Roads Office ASTRA ("Quelle: ASTRA"); the offline code meanings are based on open OBD-II databases (MIT license). Vehicle and adapter brands are trademarks of their owners. CarDiag AI is not affiliated with or endorsed by any vehicle or adapter manufacturer.
11. Disclaimer and limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, the app and our services are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, including damage to your vehicle, repair costs or losses resulting from decisions based on AI answers or from clearing codes. Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for CarDiag AI in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law or affects your mandatory rights as a consumer.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, USA, where RACEMEASURE LLC is registered. Mandatory consumer protection rules of the country where you live remain unaffected.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. We will change the date above and point out material changes in the app. If you keep using the app after a change, the new Terms apply.
